Greetings NCC Community:

As spring emerges in fits and starts from winter’s icy grip, we are getting very excited about the upcoming North Country Camps season.

Earlier, Doug Furman shared his decision with the North Country Camps Foundation board that the 2022 season would be his last as Director of Camp Lincoln. Though sad to hear, we understood and appreciated Doug’s desire to explore new professional frontiers. We’re deeply grateful to Doug for the many contributions he’s made to the North Country Camps since first arriving as a junior section counselor in 1994, up through his fourteen years as Director.

Selecting Lincoln’s next Director was our highest priority. The Board led an inclusive, comprehensive and wide-ranging search that began by reaching out to the camp alumni community, and included public postings of the position. We received strong interest and interviewed a number of promising candidates for the role.

And so we’re absolutely thrilled to welcome Neil Coplan as our next Director of Camp Lincoln. Neil has been a long time camp presence. His experience in the North Country began when he was a camper for five summers, and later a counselor for thirteen. Neil also served as visiting staff for many years, and is a parent of two former campers. As camp has been an integral part of Neil’s life, he is ready to lead Lincoln into the future.

“Camp is at the core of my being,” says Neil. “And this feels like coming home. I began my years at camp as a Cub, and I am excited to return to a place that has given so much to my family and me.”

In addition to his NCC background, Neil brings extensive leadership experience in the healthcare field as an Occupational Therapist and Director of Rehabilitation, caring for patients and families, mentoring a staff of healthcare professionals, and managing department operations. Those who have worked with Neil in healthcare and at camp admire his gentle, thoughtful, and approachable manner, as well as his keen ability to inspire.

A natural teacher and mentor with a deep love for camp, Neil is the ideal person to be the next Camp Lincoln Director as we look forward with excitement to 2022 and beyond. To ensure a smooth transition from Doug's leadership to Neil’s, Neil will be at camp full time this summer, leading and learning alongside the existing team. Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Neil.

With regards,

The North Country Camps Foundation Board of Directors
