A New Family's Perspective on North Country Camps - Carolyn Manning

Our daughter, Audrey (age 12), attended Camp Whippoorwill for the first time in 2021.  Although she had been to a camp in New Hampshire previously, this was her first experience with a sleepaway camp in the Adirondacks.  She was unable to return to her NH camp due to COVID-19 and the camp's decision to reduce enrollment.  We decided to take a leap of faith based on a good friend's recommendation and try Camp Whippoorwill.  This turned out to be the best decision we could have made.  Audrey thrived in the environment and ended up having the best summer experience.  She extended her 3-week stay to five weeks and has announced she is going back in 2022 for the full seven weeks (not sure if her parents can stand being apart for that long...)!

This pandemic has been a challenge for every family and it felt really good to give our daughter a summer experience that felt more "normal."  Camp did a wonderful job of prioritizing health and safety, and balancing that with enabling the kids to enjoy many experiences together (meals, camp fires, activities, down time in cabins, etc.).  Audrey found the environment welcoming, kind, and inclusive.  Her letters detailed the new friends she was meeting and the new things she was accomplishing.  She discovered she was good at archery (who knew?!) and revisited old passions like hiking and crafting.  Camp Whip is based in a beautiful location and the time spent in nature is good for the soul.  Our daughter returned happy, confident, and full of stories and memories.
