NCC 46er weekend – to celebrate 100 years!

Posted: October 3, 2019

On September 28-29, 2019, we encouraged you all to come up to the Adirondacks and help us celebrate our connection to the mountains by trying to get someone from North Country Camps on each of the 46 High Peaks over the course of the two day weekend. The event was a roaring success! What a great weekend. Everyone climbed what they set out to climb, and some of you even did a bit more than you planned. And it was nice to see so many of you on Saturday night and hear your stories.

If you haven’t yet seen it, check out the full photo album on the Frontage Road Facebook page (and if you’re a Facebook user, please share the link far and wide) or on Instagram. Here are a few happy faces!

A few fun stats:

39 High peaks were summited on Saturday and the remaining 7 were completed on Sunday

We had over 70 people make ascents;

5 peaks had two separate alumni groups on them at different times (Marcy, Colden, Cascade, Sawteeth and East Dix);

15 peaks were done by solo ascent;

Only two people hiked both days (Dan Abramson did Street and Nye on Saturday and Tabletop on Sunday; Jess Lewy did Allen on Saturday and then joined part of the 2019 work group to do the Santanonis on Sunday);

Danny Hickey climbed the most peaks – 8;

Jess Adkins, Ian Yurdin and Diane Hennessey came the furthest to hike (Jess from CA, Ian from Oregon and Diane from WA);

Duncan and Miles Johnson were the only ones to climb a slide (on Cascade);

Ted Sonneborn and Gavi Maia tied with Danny Hickey for the longest day: 23 miles; and

Jess Lewy did the most total mileage over two days: 32 miles.

Thanks to all of you for participating and making this final event celebrating NCC’s 100th anniversary such a success.
