A letter to our community

A letter to our community

Posted on April 09, 2020

Dear Friends,

As NCCers, we all cherish the magic of the camp experience in our own lives and the special place it holds in the hearts of the children who call Lincoln and Whippoorwill home each summer. We have a deep commitment to the value of that experience, and we are working hard every day to be ready to welcome campers for an exciting and safe 2020 season.

Our goal is to operate normally this summer. That said, we recognize that circumstances beyond our control may force us to adapt our programs in ways that are still unforeseen.
We’re planning now to deal with a range of outcomes. Regardless of how the 2020 season unfolds, we will continue working closely with the New York State Department of Health and the American Camping Association to ensure that above all else, our campers and staff are safe. We know that whatever happens, we’re resilient and determined to navigate it all with our usual pioneer spirit!

As we plan for this summer, we’re thinking of everyone in the NCC family, and especially of the children who are counting the days until camp begins. We know the world is confronting new challenges and wrestling with fears and uncertainties as we all navigate each day. We hope that you and your loved ones remain safe and healthy.

Many of you have asked what you can do to help. We welcome your support and we love having you all involved in this special community. There are two things in particular you can do right now. First, please continue to send prospective families and staff members our way. Second, stay in touch with us via Facebook and Instagram. For those of you who don’t use those platforms, we’ll be updating our webpage (northcountrycamps.com) often with new information under the “Coronavirus and NCC” section and posting fun material pertaining to camp in the “Blog” section. We also send emails several times a year to all alums. If you haven’t been receiving them, please check your spam filter and adjust it accordingly (and if you’re unsure, contact us to verify that we have your current address). To ensure we’re all staying connected, we’re sending this letter via mail so that those we haven’t reached through Facebook, Instagram, or email will know your importance to us as we all manage through this challenging experience.

At a time when life dictates that we practice social distancing, maintaining our connections is more important than ever. Let’s take this opportunity to strengthen the bonds of our remarkable community. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing all of you someday soon in the North Country.

Very Best wishes from
Doug, Kate and the North Country Camps Foundation Board
